Volunteering at LA Family Housing for the Holidays

I recently volunteered at LA Family Housing with my daughter and her friends. During this time of year, it is important to come together and help those in need in our community. It was great to create a memorable family moment while simultaneously making a difference.

With Thanksgiving around the corner, I encourage and invite you to give back and help our neighbors in need. Here are a few ways you can make a difference with your families and get involved with the organization:

For adults to get involved:

For kids to get involved:

Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world; indeed, it’s the only thing that ever has.

About LA Family Housing:

Our program participants represent a broad spectrum of income, geographic, and ethnic diversity.

We serve homeless and low-income families and single adults who arrive at LA Family Housing (LAFH) from all points throughout the City of Los Angeles. Each person that walks through our doors, or each homeless individual we meet on the streets, has a unique set of challenges—and strengths—that defines what type of support they need to get back on their feet and out of homelessness for good. At LAFH, we focus on helping the most vulnerable people in our community, including veterans, chronically homeless adults, youth transitioning out of foster care, survivors of domestic violence or trauma, and children.

Many of our participants face a variety of challenges to securing housing. In addition to a serve severe lack of affordable housing in Los Angeles many are suffering from one or more of the following: Mental Illness (35%), Substance Abuse (30%), Domestic Violence (23%), Physical Disability (21%).
